Peter Jackson is genius. I think he’s provided a reason for the dwarves needing a burglar in the first place! I believe Thorin wants Bilbo to steal the Arkenstone! The Arkenstone would be proof of his authority as king under the mountain! That way, neither elves nor men could challenge his right to rule. I really enjoy a good plot in fantasy!
