“HE’S GOT THE WHOLE WORLD IN HIS HANDS” by “The Daily Encouraging Word”

“The Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He chooses.” Da 4:25 NKJV As a Bible believer, here are three words that should not be in your vocabulary: luck, coincidence, and fate. Replace them instead with the word providence, which means “to see in advance and to provide for.” The Westminster Confession of Faith, written in the seventeenth century, states: “God the great creator of all things doth uphold, direct, dispose, and govern all creatures, actions, and things from the greatest even to the least, by his most wise and holy providence.” That means God is in charge, not us! But what about our human will? Can’t we act independently? Theologian Dr. R. C. Sproul wrote, “God’s sovereign providence stands over and above our actions. He works out His will through the actions of human wills, without violating the freedom of those human wills.” Look at Joseph. His brothers tried to destroy him, but instead their efforts put him on the throne of Egypt and fulfilled God’s will. Later he said, “You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to brin g about this present result” (Ge 50:20 NAS). Judas’ most heinous act helped bring about the best thing that ever happened, Christ’s atonement for our sins on the cross. Are you confused because of the things going on around you? One reason is because we only utilize about 10 percent of our mental potential. Plus, Paul points out that now we only “know in part” (1Co 13:9). When we get to heaven God may explain it all—or not. Until then, trust Him. And rejoice, He’s got the whole world in His hands—including you!

“HAVE YOU DISCOVERED YOUR LIFE’S PURPOSE?” by “The Daily Encouraging Word”

From The Encouraging Word Ministries

From The Daily Encouraging Word

“Called according to his purpose.” Ro 8:28 NLT If you want things to work out right for you in life, you need to discover your God-ordained purpose and give yourself fully to it. The Bible says, “All things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose” (v. 28 NKJV). The focal point of your life should be discovering and doing God’s will. What you believe about that will determine the direction you take and what you accomplish. There’s a big difference between talent and purpose. You are called according to God’s purpose, not your talent. When you are talented but not called, you can be comfortable anywhere. That’s because talent, like justice, is blind; it sees all opportunities the same. But when you are aware of your God-given purpose and it governs your life, there are things you simply won’t do because you know they’ll derail, dilute, or defeat God’s purpose for you. Being “called according to his purpose” enables you to focus on the development of your talent only as it rela tes to God’s will for you. So instead of asking God to bless what you’re doing, ask Him to reveal His purpose for your life. Once you discover and fulfill that, you’ll be blessed, because His plan is already blessed! Let’s read it again: “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them” (NLT). So have you discovered God’s purpose for your life yet? If not, get into His presence and stay there until He reveals it to you. It’s the only way you’ll ever be totally fulfilled.

“THE UNIQUE RESURRECTION OF JESUS (2)” by “The Daily Encouraging Word”

From The Encouraging Word Ministries

From The Daily Encouraging Word

“Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life.” Jn 11:25 Why is Christ’s resurrection unique? (1) He’s the only one who didn’t die again. In Scripture all others who rose from the dead, died again. Jesus was the glorious exception. Consequently, “He was made a priest…through the power of a life which has no end” (Heb 7:16 GNT). His testimony stands: “I was dead…I am alive for ever” (Rev 1:18 NIV). (2) He alone ascended into Heaven to represent us before God. Other priests died and ceased to serve. But Jesus was “declared…a priest forever” (Heb 7:17 NIV). And He’s not sitting around awaiting the second coming; He’s representing us before God. “He entered heaven itself…to appear for us in God’s presence” (Heb 9:24 NIV). That means no accusation against us can stand. “Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died…is at the right hand of God…interceding for us” (Ro 8:34 NIV). (3) He has the power to resurrect you when you die. Jesus comforted His disciples with this awesome promise: “Before long, the world will not see m e anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live” (Jn 14:19 NIV). And that promise applies to you too! “For the Lord himself will come down from heaven…the dead in Christ will rise first…we who are still alive…will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever” (1Th 4:16-17 NIV). What a day that will be!

“THE UNIQUE RESURRECTION OF JESUS (1)” by “The Daily Encouraging Word”

From The Encouraging Word Ministries

From The Daily Encouraging Word

“I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever!” Rev 1:18 NLT The fact that Jesus arose from the dead isn’t what makes Him unique. The Bible records seven other resurrections. Jesus was number eight (the biblical number for new beginnings). In two amazing ways His resurrection was unlike any other; let’s look at them: (1) His was the only resurrection foretold in advance. David prophesied of Jesus: “For you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your holy one to rot in the grave” (Ps 16:10 NLT). And Isaiah foretold life for Him beyond His crucifixion. “When you make His soul an offering for sin…He shall prolong His days” (Isa 53:10 NKJV). Jesus actually forecast His resurrection from death. “Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem…be killed and on the third day be raised to life” (Mt 16:21 NIV). (2) Only Jesus raised Himself from the dead! His enemies deemed Him a helpless victim of their determined efforts to eradicate Him and His mission. But they were wrong on all counts! He said, “No one can take my life fr om me. I sacrifice it voluntarily. For I have the authority to lay it down when I want to and also to take it up again” (Jn 10:18 NLT). All of Rome’s might and the hatred of his Jewish persecutors couldn’t eliminate Jesus or nullify His cause. He needed no help. In His death and in His resurrection, He was always at the helm. “Destroy this temple [my body], and in three days I will raise it up” (Jn 2:19 NLT). And He did! He’s alive forevermore!

“Check your attitude” by “The Daily Encouraging Word”

From The Encouraging Word Ministries

From The Daily Encouraging Word

“You must have the same attitude that…Jesus had.” Php 2:5 NLT A flying instructor will tell you that periodically your plane needs to be “trimmed” or “balanced in flight.” After flying through storms, it gets knocked out of alignment and needs to be adjusted. And the same thing happens on your spiritual journey. The storms of life can “knock you out of alignment.” Unexpected “weather conditions” like sickness, depression, unemployment, divorce, disappointment, and death can force you to change direction and strategy. That’s why your attitude needs to be regularly checked and adjusted. So what are you dealing with that calls for an attitude check? Paul writes, “You must have the same attitude…Jesus had.” Is such a lifestyle possible? Yes, but you must make it a priority and pursue it each day. Joshua wanted to turn an army of complainers into an army that could conquer the Promised Land. So God gave him this formula for success: “Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night…be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do” (Jos 1:8 NLT). Try the “three-by-five technique.” Each week identify a Scripture that relates to an area in which you want to grow, write it down on a three-by-five card, and memorize it. In one year you’ll have fifty-two Scriptures you can recall and stand on. Think how that will impact your life! Not only will wrong attitudes become right attitudes, but your life will begin to move in the right direction.
