I have a renewed respect for my Granny Sparks and Grandmother Ross, here lately. They used to to do a lot of canning and setting up preserves for the winter. Granny Sparks’ back porch was enclosed with shelves all over the walls. By the end of summer, she would have those shelves packed with jars of canned vegetables and preserved fruit. Thought I’d try my hand at it this year, and started pickling cucumbers. Well sir, I’ve done 18 pints of dill pickle spears, 18 pints of icicle pickles, and 14 pints of bread and butter pickles. The summer isn’t even half over and I’m POOPED . Still, homemade pickles sure taste good. ‘sigh’ I miss Granny Sparks and Grandmother Ross…
